Mr Alistair McCleary is a distinguished consultant vascular and general surgeon based in York and Harrogate. With an extensive background in vascular surgery, he specialises in treating a wide range of conditions, including varicose veins, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), deep vein thrombosis, vascular access surgery, aortic aneurysms, and inguinal hernia.

Mr McCleary qualified in medicine from the University of Oxford in 1989, followed by an MA from the University of Cambridge in 1990. After pursuing further training in Cambridge, Oxford and Leeds, he additionally completed a highly sought-after vascular fellowship at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia in 1999. Mr McCleary is also an appointed fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. He has been based in York as a consultant vascular surgeon for over 20 years and there helped to establish a dedicated vascular unit, which is now one of the busiest services of its kind in the UK. Mr McCleary sees private patients at Nuffield Health York Hospital and The Duchy Hospital in Harrogate.

Throughout his esteemed career, Mr McCleary has held a number of esteemed positions, currently serving as deputy director of both the Hull, North Yorkshire, and North Lincolnshire Vascular Centre and the Hull and North Yorkshire Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme. He additionally chairs the Venous Thromboembolic Disease Committee and acts as treasurer of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland.

Alongside his clinical responsibilities, Mr McCleary regularly teaches trainee surgeons and fellow medical professionals. He has published numerous academic papers which appear in esteemed peer reviewed journals. A pioneer in adopting minimally invasive techniques in the treatment of varicose veins under local anaesthesia, Mr McCleary is regarded as a leading specialist in his field. He is a member of a number of professional bodies, including the European Vascular Society.

He currently practises at the Spire Tunbridge Wells Hospital and Nuffield Health Hospital in Tunbridge Wells, the Kent-based Benenden Hospital, as well as Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. 

Dr Maiden's main areas of research interest include nutrition, liver disease, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, interventional endoscopy (polyp removal), as well as small bowel enteroscopy. Presently, he is Chief of Medicine and Emergency Care at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust and is, impressively, only one of two officially accredited consultant colonoscopists for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme in Tunbridge Wells. 

His role as nutrition clinical lead at Tunbridge Wells Hospital NHS has seen Dr Maiden notably develop original and effective pathways in relation to the management of specialised feeding (both parenteral and enteral) and of patients suffering from eating disorders. He was appointed Chief of Medicine and Emergency Care at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in 2018, a role which sees him responsible for overseeing three different directorates, 70 consultants and 300 nurses.

Dr Allan Harkness is a highly acclaimed consultant cardiologist, based in Essex and Suffolk, with a special interest in CT coronary angiography and advanced echocardiography. Dr Harkness works privately at the Oaks Hospital, Colchester and the Nash Basildon Private Unit at The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre.

After graduating from the University of Glasgow in 1994, Dr Harkness went on to complete further specialist training in London and Glasgow, gaining accreditation in both general medicine and cardiology. During his research into heart failure, he worked with the British Heart Foundation on a nurse-led community heart failure service which became the NICE-approved standard of care nationwide.  

Dr Harkness has been a consultant cardiologist at Colchester Hospital since 2006 and at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre since it opened in 2007. In 2010, he became the clinical lead for cardiology at Colchester Hospital, where he has extensively developed their cardiac services. In 2017, he was appointed as Divisional Director for Medicine and Emergency Care for Colchester Hospital for which he served two three-year terms of office, covering the merger with Ipswich Hospital and the Pandemic. In 2013, he was appointed Deputy Associate Medical Director for Patient Safety for the Trust.

Dr Harkness is a core member of the Education Committee of the British Society of Echocardiography and lectures for national training programs. He also developed the BSE app EchoCalc, a key reference guide for cardiac physiologists worldwide. He has contributed to over a dozen national guidelines on echocardiography. For his contribution to education, research, leadership, volunteering and national reputation, he was awarded Fellow of the British Society of Echocardiography in October 2019. In recognition of his service and contribution to the advancement of echocardiography, he was presented with the 2021 BSE Lifetime Achievement Award.

Miss Sarah McMahon is an experienced consultant in trauma and orthopaedic surgery, specialised in limb reconstruction. Her practice at Great Ormond Street Hospital and at The Portland Hospital is dedicated to surgery in children and young people, between the ages of 0-18. Occasionally, she sees pregnant women who wish to discuss foetal limb anomalies discovered on antenatal scan.

She read medicine at UCL, graduating with a distinction in anatomy and developmental biology in addition to her medical degree. She completed her medical and surgical training rotations in Edinburgh and London, focussing in on the diagnosis and treatment of injuries, difficulties, and deformities affecting the musculooskeletal system in adults and children. Her subspecialty fellowships in paediatric orthopaedics and limb reconstruction were at Great Ormond Street Hospital, The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, and Kings College Hospital.

She attained the Fellowhip of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2010, and is a member of the British Limb Reconstruction Society. She began her Consultant career at the Royal Free Hospital, before joining the staff at Great Ormond Street Hospital. She is a Surgical Trainer for registrars, developing the next generation of experts in her field. She treats all non-spinal conditions in children, with the exception of soft tissue knee (arthroscopic or keyhole procedures). This includes flat feet, bow legs, knock knees, fractures, painful joints, limping, leg length differences and hip disorders in babies and older children (DDH, Perthes, neuromuscular).

She takes a holistic approach to clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment, and views individual problems in the context of the alignment and function of the whole limb, and the whole life of each child. She has as special interest in the Ilizarov technique for limb lengthening and correction of bone deformities using external frames, often deployed in the treatment of children with rare conditions affecting their bones and children who have developed a bone problem after suffering a serious infection or accident. At The Portland Hospital she works with a team of surgeons and Miss Crichton, their superb practice manager, who makes everything run smoothly from the perspective of the patient and their family.

Mr Arnold Christiaan Goede is an expert colorectal and general surgeon based in Buckinghamshire whose expertise includes laparoscopic colorectal and general surgery, colonoscopy and gastroscopy, laparoscopic and open hernia surgery, gallbladder surgery and assessment and management of patients with pelvic floor dysfunction and prolapse.

Mr Goede works at the BMI Chiltern Hospital where he practices as a specialist colorectal surgeon and attends patients with general abdominal, colorectal and pelvic floor problems. He was previously the director of the department of general surgery and is director of medical education for the St George's School of Medicine, Grenada. In addition, he is also the educational supervisor to higher surgical trainees attending from Oxford, and is the regional representative at the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGB) for the Oxford Chapter.

In 1996, Mr Goede graduated from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. After moving to the UK, he worked as a basic surgical trainee for four years and then went on to graduate with an MS from the University of London. In 2004, he attained a Higher Surgical Training number on the Oxford Training Scheme where he completed his specialist training in 2010. During this time he gained clinical exposure to complex colorectal surgery and laparoscopic surgery and generated a specialist interest in these areas and pelvic floor surgery as well. He finished his training with an Advanced Laparoscopic Colorectal and Pelvic Floor Surgery Fellowship.

Mr Goede is within the top 5 surgeons in the UK by volume for bowel cancer resections with excellent outcomes. Additionally, he is the Enhanced Recovery Programme Lead, the Nutrition Lead for Surgery, Combined abdominal wall reconstructive surgeon with plastic surgeons, and the lead general surgeon for the National Spìnal Injuries Unit, giving Mr Goede a wide and varied, yet highly specialist general and colorectal surgery practice.

Dr Hélène Menagé is a highly experienced London dermatologist, who specialises in photodermatology, sun allergies, skin cancer and inflammatory diseases such as eczema and psoriasis.

Dr Menagé qualified from Guys' Hospital with an intercalated BSc in psychology. She worked on the professorial units at Guys' and Lewisham and thereafter for 4 years in general (internal) medicine in teaching, and postgraduate hospitals before training in dermatology at St John's Institute. Dr Menagé’s research was in photodermatology and her most significant academic contributions were the finding of a highly significant HLA association with the photodermatosis actinic prurigo, a rare type of skin sensitivity induced by sunlight.

In 1996 Dr Menagé was appointed as Consultant Dermatologist to Lewisham Hospital with sessions in photodermatology at St John’s. As a keen teacher, she oversaw the integration of medical student teaching into Lewisham dermatology, interviews for KCl medicine, teaches dermatology trainees and also lectures.

Dr Menagé is foemer clinical editor of Current Medical Literature: Dermatology. She is a past President of the St John's Dermatological Society, which holds monthly educational meetings for consultants and dermatologists in training. Dr Menagé is past President of the dermatology section of the Royal Society of Medicine.

She has published academic papers, book chapters and clinical case reports. She has assisted in the development of consensus statements for the public through the British Photodermatology Group and NHS choices and contributed to Guidelines action groups and publications for the British Association of Dermatologist.  Dr Menagé is a trustee of the Royal Society of Medicine.
